We have just a few weeks before our kiddos head back to school. We are always a bit sad to say goodbye to the easy, laid back days of summer, but the beginning of the school year brings it’s own excitement and fun.
These free printable back to school word searches for kids are a fun and challenging activity for kids that you can have on when you’re getting ready for the start of school.
We have two levels to choose from so you’ll have something for everyone! And, if you have some kiddos who are able to finish quickly, they can spend time coloring in the pictures when they’re done with the word search!

Free Printable Back to School Word Search Puzzles for Kids
Whether you have a young child just starting to learn how to read or an older sibling who loves a good challenge, there are two levels of difficulty available to download.

Plus, at the bottom of this post, we have a bigger download pack that includes both back to school word searches and their respective answer sheets (just in case someone needs a little help!).
Easy Back to School Word Search
The first level is perfect for younger kids, with larger fonts and simpler word lists. This word search includes vocabulary that is easily associated with days at school, such as desk, class, and teacher. As children search for these words, they not only build their reading skills but also strengthen their vocabulary.
This smaller word search is a great option for beginning readers. The puzzle contains 10 words that are easy for younger kids to read. Also, there are no diagonal words.
Back to School Word Search: 20 Words
For older kids, the second level offers a more complex puzzle. The fonts are slightly smaller, and the word lists include longer words appropriate for more advanced readers.
There are 20 school time words hidden in this puzzle! Can you find them all? Grab this printable for stronger readers who are up for more of a challenge. The words in this puzzle go every way except backwards.
